Live Births by Characteristics

10 January 2019

The Office for National Statistics released further birth characteristics data for 2017 today. This information can be found within the dataview Live Births : Totals, Gender, Low Birth Weight, Marital Status, Age of Mother. There is a separate dataview showing Live Births by Mother's Country of Birth which was updated previously.

Just a couple of snippets from this new data :
....   The % of births in Northamptonshire below 2.5kg in weight rose to 7.4% in 2017, the highest rate of the last eight years. This is driven by rates of over 8% in Corby, East Northamptonshire and Kettering. The England average is 7.0% and has remained at this level for seven years.
....   The proportion of sole registrations across the county at 4.7 for 2017 is lower than the England average (5.2%) and remains below 5% for the second year running. Amongst the boroughs and districts the highest sole registration rates (as opposed to registering with a partner) are found in Wellingborough (5.9%) and Northampton (5.8%).
....   Northamptonshire's General Fertility Rate (the number of live births per 1000 women aged 15-44) at 66.1 births is above the England average of 61.2. The rate ranges from 58.7 in South Northamptonshire to 70.3 in Corby.
