The latest life expectancy dataset covering 2015-2017 released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday has now been uploaded to Northamptonshire Analysis. Please see the dataview called Life Expectancy (including Healthy & Disability-Free Life Expectancy) within the Population and Census theme.

Male Life Expectancy at Birth for Northamptonshire has increased by 0.1 of a year in 2015-17 and now stands at 79.5 years.   After years of uninterrupted increases, male life expectancy in the county has flattened over the last three time periods. The national timeseries shows a similar picture, although nationally men live a smidge longer at 79.6 years (2015-17).   Amongst the county's boroughs and district the latest figures range from 81.4 years in Daventry to 76.8 years in Corby.    This figure ranks Corby 333 of 346 borough/district/unitary (BDU) authorities (14th lowest) across England and Wales.

Despite having a slightly lower Life Expectancy at Birth than the national average, Northamptonshire's males on average spend a higher proportion of their lives in good health (82.0%) than men across England a whole (79.7%).

Female Life Expectancy at Birth in Northamptonshire for 2015-17 is 82.8 years, a decrease for the second time period running.   The England average has remained static at 83.1 years for the last three time periods.   Amongst the county's boroughs and districts the figure ranges from 84.9 years in South Northamptonshire (static) to 80.5 years in Corby (a decrease). This figure ranks Corby 340 out of 346 BDU authorities across England and Wales (7th lowest) behind Manchester, Blackpool, Middlesbrough, Kingston-Upon-Hull, Blackburn-with-Darwen and Liverpool.

Women in Northamptonshire have a healthy life expectancy at birth of 62.7 years (less than for males in the county), which equates to 75.8% of their lives (a decreasing proportion).   Unlike for males in the county this is a lower proportion than the national average (76.7%).
