Infant Deaths

30 November 2018

The Infant Deaths dataview has been updated with the 2017 data released today. Please note : the Office for National Statistics consider the district level rates to be of "low reliability" due to the small numbers involved.

All three (infant, neonatal and perinatal) rates have increased in Northamptonshire in 2017 compared to 2016.

The Infant Mortality Rate at 4.9 per 1000 live births is at its highest since 2011 and above the England average of 4.0 per 1000 live births.

The Neonatal Mortality Rate at 3.7 per 1000 live births equals that experienced in 2012 and is also above the England average of 2.9 per 1000 live births.

The Perinatal Mortality Rate is 7.4 per 1000 live and still births has been fluctuating between 8.8 and 6.2 over the current decade.   The England average rate (currently 6.4 per 1000 live and still births) has been decreasing steadily since 2011.   Perinatal rates above 9 per 1000 live and still births have occurred in Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire in each of the last three years.

Age Definitions :
Perinatal = deaths under 7 days and stillbirths
Neonatal = dealth under 28 days (4 weeks)
Infant = deaths under one year.
