Occupation of Employed Residents

24 July 2018

In the year ending of March 2018 (Y2EndMar18) the proportion of Northamptonshire's employed residents who were working in 'higher level' occupations (Standard Occupation Classification Groups 12&3) stood at 43.8%.   This is the highest March figure over the last 8 years but lower than the England average of 46.2%.   The gap between the county and national (Y2EndMarch) figures continues to fluctuate and Northamptonshire remains in the lower half of the list of Economic Comparators for this indicator.

Amongst the county's boroughs and districts the proportion of employed residents working in higher level occupations ranges from 56.1% in South Northamptonshire (increasing) to 32.5% in Corby (back up slightly after two years of decreases).

In the Y2EndMar18 Northamptonshire has a lower than the England average proportion of employed persons working in Professional Occupations (17.2% v. 20.4%) and higher than the England average proportion of Process, Plant and Machine Operatives (9.7% v. 6.3%).
